A-League Soccer Team for Melbourne’s South-East

Today at Harmony Square the Mayors of the City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey and Shire of Cardinia signed a memorandum of understanding for a new A-League soccer team to be established in South-East Melbourne.

The plan includes the development of a boutique stadium near Dandenong railway station, a soccer centre of excellence at Casey Fields (to be used as the prospective club’s training and administrative base) and a Youth Pathway Program in Pakenham.

Former Socceroo who was born and breed in Dandenong, Vince Grella, is acting as Ambassador to the campaign. With three current Socceroos from the region, it seems like the time is right to introduce a team in the area.

The most exciting part is that this initiative will unite the community and region – it is inclusive to all and it provides a pathway for the kids within the South East to kick goals in the sport. These are exciting times ahead… who knows we might just discover the next prodigy who can ‘bend it like Beckham’.
